Top 10 Tips to Get More Energy

 6. Cut Way Back on Coffee and White Sugar

Like energy drinks, sugar and coffee also give you more energy in the short term while sapping you of energy in the long run. Also like energy drinks, both are addicting. Drink coffee in the morning for a week or two, and you soon find that you have trouble getting going without it. Eat a high-sugar meal, and you’ll experience an energy crash within minutes to hours, and likely end up craving more sugar. Green tea is a decent substitute for coffee, and apples, pears, bananas, oranges, and berries deliver healthful sugars along with plenty of other valuable nutrients without sending you on an energy roller-coaster.

7. Make Sure to Get Enough Quality Protein

Protein helps you stay energized and full though the day. But not all proteins are created equal. In general, proteins from animal sources are of higher value to your body than proteins from vegetable sources. Organic dairy, especially raw milk organic cheese, is a great way to get protein, especially given how hard it is to find quality meat and fish. Alaskan salmon, and free range organic chicken and turkey are also good choices. Organic free range meats are expensive, but a little bit of healthy meat goes a long way. 5-15oz  (between one and three servings) of quality meat per week is optimal for most metabolisms.

8. Take Cat Naps

A 20 minute nap really helps recharge your batteries. If you’re feeling exhausted, and you can make the time, give in and nap. You’ll be a lot more energized and productive when you wake up. If it’s after 3 pm, make sure to limit your nap to 20 minutes, or you’ll have trouble falling asleep that night.

9. Move Five Minutes out of Every Two Hours Through the Day

Moving around consistently though the day helps to keep your metabolism up, leaving you feeling more energized and also helping you burn fat. A brisk walk outside is the best way to pick up energy levels. Try to make the time in between classes or meetings. Moving every 50-60 minutes is best, but even 5-10 minutes of movement every 2 hours will help you stay energized.

10. Try Some Supplements That Work With Your Body to Improve Energy

If you are chronically deprived of energy, good nutrition and exercise may not be enough to get you on track as fast as you might like. There are a number of supplements derived from glandular extracts that can aid your adrenals and your thyroid – the two gland systems that have the most control over your energy levels. These supplements can be very powerful, but their use needs to be carefully supervised by a trained professional. Seek out a holistically minded doctor or a good naturopath and ask them about thyroid and adrenal support supplements.
