Factor Three: We Don’t Understand Who We Are
We humans are without a doubt exceptional animals, but we are still animals. We’re not saying this in an attempt to reduce human glory, or to make a point about science versus religion. We abhor the sceince/religion conflict, and look forward to the day that scientists and theologians get along. We’re emphasizing our animal nature because the world seems to have forgotten that we are biological organisms and, like any biological organism, we are built to survive and thrive in a very specific environment. You’ve heard the phrase “a fish out of water”. In the water, fish are sleek, fast, and graceful. Take them out of the water, and the flop about and founder in pretty pathetic fashion. Human beings in the modern world are a bit like fish out of water.
We are meant to live in a world free of pollution, jobs that keep us sedentary all day, processed food, and chronic psychological stress. This is the way the world was through most of human history. In that world, our ancestors got plenty of exercise, ate only natural foods, and were generally free of conditions like heart disease, cancer, obesity, and diabetes that plague us today. So what’s the solution? Throwing away civilization and going back to the Stone Age? Of course not. But if we come to accept and understand our biological nature, we can find ways of living in harmony with that nature here in the modern world. And then imagine what a world we could forge - all of the benefits of civilization and technology, on top of the health and vitality that will come with living the way we’re meant to live. Building this world is what ReEvolution is all about, and change starts with you.
