Finishing the Program

Your body will naturally pull out of detox as soon as you start eating a normal diet again. Make your first meal off relatively easy to digest – oats or quinoa and vegetables, or beans or hummus with olive oil and veggies are a great choices. For your next meal, try some nuts (not peanuts or pistachios, which are low quality food in any event) and see how they digest. Nuts are easier to digest than most meats, and will get your body used to digesting dense protein again. The day after you eat nuts you can try eating a bit of meat. Your digestive system should be back up and running at normal speed by this time. Alternatively, consider spending a few more weeks on an all veggie diet. If you do your body will keep detoxing, albeit at a slower pace, and you'll end up getting more out of this program.

You may want to wait and be very methodical about reintroducing sugar, wheat, dairy, and eggs to your diet after detoxing. All three foods are common allergens, and millions of people suffer from fatigue, stress, sinus congestion, headaches, breathing difficulties, and digestive impairment as a result of undiagnosed food allergies. If you’re feeling great post detox, and ready to return to these foods, isolate them and make a meal of just one of them at a time. For instance, for breakfast, just have scrambled eggs alone, and see how you feel. If you feel tired, gassy, or if your nose clogs up over the rest of the day, you’re probably allergic to eggs, and should consider eliminating them from your diet for 3 to 6 months. After that much time, food allergies tend to calm down, and the problem food can be eaten once or twice a week in moderation without difficulties.
